Monogram dance floor decals
A printed monogram in the center of your dance floor gets you the overhead photo for far less than a full wrap.
A monogram dance floor decal is one printed piece set in the middle of the floor, instead of a wrap that covers the floor edge to edge. You keep the venue’s own floor around it, you still get the overhead photo, and you pay for far fewer square feet. Our prices are $8 per square foot printed and shipped, or $11 per square foot printed and installed by our crew, with a $750 minimum.
Monogram decal or full wrap?
Both are printed in-house and finished with the same textured, slip-resistant floor laminate. The difference is coverage, and coverage is what drives the price.
A monogram decal makes sense when:
- The venue floor already looks good, like clean hardwood, white acrylic or a nice parquet.
- You mostly want the photo from above and a moment during the first dance.
- You’re keeping the budget for other things.
A full dance floor wrap makes sense when the floor itself is the problem (scuffed, dated, the wrong color) or when you want a pattern that runs everywhere, like marble or a checkerboard. For a sense of scale: a 16 x 16 ft floor wrapped edge to edge is $2,816 installed, while an 8 x 8 ft monogram in the middle of that same floor is $750. Our dance floor wrap cost guide has more sizes, and if you’re also weighing a light-up floor, see floor wrap vs LED dance floor.
What size monogram fits your floor
Leave room around the design so it reads as a centerpiece, not a rug that almost fits. On a 16 x 16 ft floor, a 6 ft monogram leaves 5 ft of open floor on every side, and an 8 ft monogram leaves 4 ft. On a 12 x 12 ft floor, 5 to 6 ft is usually plenty.
Text size matters too. Initials can be large and bold. A date or a full name underneath should be big enough to read from the edge of the floor, not just from a ladder. If you’re not sure of the floor size, our guide on how to measure a dance floor covers it.
How we price a monogram decal
We price a round or shaped decal on the square that contains it. A 6 ft round monogram is quoted as 6 x 6 ft, which is 36 sq ft. That keeps quotes simple and means you know the number before the design is final.
| Decal size | Sq ft | Shipped (you install) | Installed | Installed + removal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 4 ft | 16 | $128 | $750 (minimum) | $1,100 |
| 6 x 6 ft | 36 | $288 | $750 (minimum) | $1,100 |
| 8 x 8 ft | 64 | $512 | $750 (minimum) | $1,100 |
| 10 x 10 ft | 100 | $800 | $1,100 | $1,450 |
Optional extras: $150 flat if we design the artwork from scratch, $350 if we come back to remove the decal after the event, and 25% more for rush orders under 48 hours. The full list is on our pricing page.
Example 1: 6 ft round monogram, shipped
36 sq ft x $8 = $288. If you want us to design it from scratch, add $150 for a total of $438. You or your venue team lays it down.
Example 2: 6 ft round monogram, installed
36 sq ft x $11 = $396, which is under the $750 minimum, so the price is $750. The minimum covers about 68 sq ft, which means an 8 ft monogram (64 sq ft) costs the same $750. If you’re paying the minimum anyway, it’s worth asking whether a bigger design would look better in the room. Add removal and the total is $1,100.
Example 3: 10 ft crest, installed and removed
100 sq ft x $11 = $1,100, plus $350 removal = $1,450. On a 20 x 20 ft floor, the $1,100 install is a quarter of the $4,400 it would cost to wrap the whole floor. If the order is a rush, the install becomes $1,100 x 1.25 = $1,375 before removal.
Design options
Most monograms are built from a few simple parts. Mix and match:
- Initials, either side by side or interlocked
- First names, or a last name for a family celebration
- The date, written out or in numerals
- A crest or family emblem
- A wreath, laurel or floral frame
- A solid circle or square background in your wedding colors
- A short line like a hashtag or a quote
If your stationer already made a monogram for the invitations, send the file and there’s no design fee. For more starting points, see our wedding dance floor ideas and the design concepts in the gallery. Planning a quinceañera, sweet sixteen or mitzvah instead? See party dance floor ideas.
Ask about the venue floor first
A decal needs a smooth, hard, clean surface. Before you order, ask your venue:
- What the dance floor is made of: hardwood, parquet, acrylic, sealed concrete or tile
- Whether the floor was recently refinished or waxed
- Whether decals are allowed, and who has to remove them and by when
- What time vendors can get into the room
If the dance area is carpeted, you’ll need a rented hard dance floor on top first. Our article on whether a floor wrap can damage the venue floor goes deeper.
Monogram decal questions
How much does a custom monogram on a dance floor cost?
Shipped, it’s $8 per square foot, so a 6 x 6 ft decal is $288. Installed in our service area, small monograms land at the $750 minimum, and a 10 x 10 ft piece is $1,100.
Why is a round decal priced as a square?
It’s how we quote: a round or shaped decal is priced on the square that contains it. A 6 ft circle is quoted as 6 x 6 ft.
Can I install a monogram decal myself?
Yes. Small decals are the easiest kind of floor graphic to lay on your own. Clean the floor, let it dry fully, and take your time working out bubbles from the center outward.
Will people slip on it?
Every decal is finished with a textured, slip-resistant floor laminate, the same one we use on full wraps. More on that in our FAQ.
Do you install outside Chicago?
We install across Chicagoland, southeast Wisconsin and northwest Indiana, and ship anywhere in the US. See the service area for towns.
